Tips For Picking An Engagement Session Location
A big question my clients ask me is, “Where should we go for engagement photos?” I always say that the location should reflect you as a couple above all. I know a ton of locations but if you follow these tips for picking an engagement session location you can choose one that is personal and meaningful to you as a couple.
Significance.
Choose a place that has special meaning to the both of you. Pick the place where you had your first date together. Is there an activity that you both love to do together? For example a trail you both hike together and love, an ice cream/coffee shop you frequent often – things like that will make your photos stand out as uniquely your own. It could even be a meaningful activity too like picnicking in a park or walking the dog. These shoots are so much fun to do because they get so creative and individual to the couple. Plus you get to have a date during the session!
Comfort.
If you are uncomfortable, it will show in your photos. Choose a location where you both are comfortable and feel like you are in your element. If you are camera shy, it might be beneficial to choose a location that isn’t busy so that you can really focus on your fiance. Wherever you feel like you can both be yourselves is going to be the best location. This will help produce great photos!
Style.
Choose a location that fits both of your styles. A location also conveys a mood so you need to make sure to choose a location that fits the style you have in mind for your photos. The location is going to be a big part of your photos so it would also be beneficial to think about how you are going to display your photos. Do you plan on printing one out on a large canvas for your wall? Think about what kind of style you would like to have up on your wall. Do you both like the urban, industrial feel with a lot of brick and metal? Or do you have more of a rustic, nature style?
Personality.
Pick a location that showcases your personalities. Do you like to collect art? Go to an art gallery. Do you ride your bikes all of the time? Incorporate that into your session. Get creative! This is after all a session meant to showcase you and your relationship! Do something fun and outside the box that will make your photos completely and uniquely you.
