Reasons Why Photography Matters
There are many reasons why photography matters. What I love is that for everyone the reasons are different. Here are mine!
Every year since I was two I would take an annual camping trip with my grandparents. This is where my love for photography began because I would take my little film camera, along with copious rolls of film, and document the entire trip. Those camping trips were priceless to me because it was cherished one on one time with my grandparents. Even though we do not go on those camping trips anymore, I still have those pictures to look back on and remember all the little details. Sometimes as we get older memories fade and blur together unless triggered by something and every time I look back on these photos I remember something else about those camping trips.

Just this last year (2017), my husband and I were looking for a photo to give to my mother in law for her Christmas card. We realized we had not taken very many photos of ourselves. I was disappointed. There was one whole year – gone. I’ll never get it back and there will never be photos to remember it by. We resolved to be better about it in 2018 but after that conversation I immediately messaged my mom and told her I wanted to take photos of her and my dad, my brothers and my grandparents. I am SO glad we did! I will cherish these photos forever. They capture some of the people I love the most in this world and when they are long gone, I want to be able to pull these photos out and have them all over my house.
My mom is one of the most important people in my life. She is one of the strongest, most supportive and fun people I know. I can go to her with ANYTHING. I don’t know very many people who can say that. She has always been someone I look up to and cherish so when I decided to jump into portraiture, I knew I had to get her in front of the camera. These photos of her are going to be so important to me forever! Next up is to get my dad in front of the camera.
Here’s a list of reasons photos are important.

They allow us to share and communicate.
They spark emotion and have the power to move us.
They document milestones.
And so much more!
