Nature Session: Practice Part I
You only get better the more you shoot. When LD Photography doesn’t have a session, we like to go out and practice with what’s naturally around us. The other day, Jerry and I walked to a small little nature area across the street from where we live. It was late in the afternoon and the sun was beginning to set so the light filtered nicely through the trees. We brought along one of our favorite books that I highly recommend if you’re just starting out called “Understanding Exposure.” If you were to look at the spot where we shot, you would see lots of discarded trash and debris. But in the middle of all of that is this wonderful beauty of nature. Since it’s spring, all the flowers are blooming and everything is intensely green. By shooting something outside of our normal weddings and portrait session we challenge ourselves to think outside of the box and try new techniques and styles. We plan on doing many more of these practice sessions. The only down side was getting attacked by hoards of hungry mosquitoes–ugh, I’m still counting the bites. In the picture of me with my back turned you can even see some of them hovering next to me, yuck!
